We showcase a paid tool for easy generation of 2D RPG spritesheets.
Creating a large cast of unique characters can slow down any RPG project, especially when you need hundreds or even thousands of sprites for NPCs, crowds, prototypes, or randomized encounters. Hero Printer v1.0, developed by Gabriel Lima, is a standalone cross-platform tool built in Godot and designed to generate large amounts of 2D top-down characters quickly.

It lets developers assemble walking sprites and facesets by combining bodies, clothing, accessories, and visual add-ons, producing up to billions of possible character variations. The tool intentionally supports manual editing as well, so users can refine the generated results when needed.
What This Tool Does
Hero Printer is a standalone character-building software designed for 2D RPG workflows in any engine. It provides preset body types, directional walk cycles, facesets, and a large library of modular visual elements. Users can build complete characters by mixing and matching items inside the tool or extend the library with their own custom assets.

The output includes both character sheets and facesets, suitable for engines like Godot, RPG Maker, Unity, or any top-down 2D project.
Main Features
  • 48×48 walking sprites
  • 4 directional animations
  • 6-frame looping version and 3-frame back-and-forth version

Similar and Useful Tools
  • Stella Character Generator: A desktop tool for building modular RPG characters with layered clothing, portraits, and walking sprites. It supports multiple body types, color masks, and exports compatible with common RPG engines.

Differences:
Stella is more general-purpose and supports a wider range of styles and resolutions. Hero Printer is more focused on RPG-Maker-style charsets and facesets, offering a much larger combination count and tighter optimization for classic 48×48 sprite workflows.

  • Top Down Sprite Maker (TDSM): A cross-platform pixel-art character generator for creating customizable top-down sprites and animation sheets. Offers multiple directions, layered components, and flexible style editing.

Differences: TDSM is a broad sprite-sheet builder with free-form style control. Hero Printer is more specialized, providing ready-made RPG character templates, facesets, and billions of predefined combinations ideal for classic top-down RPGs.

Tiny RPG: Hero Printer is now available on the itch.io.
