We asked our followers about starting a YouTube channel, and now the first video is live, with Fabrizio Espindola recreating a procedural Gastly from Desmos in Godot.
A few days ago, we announced on X that we were starting a YouTube channel and asked what the first video should be about, with a procedural Gastly made by Fabrizio a while ago as one of the options.
So, in this first episode, Fabrizio starts in Desmos, using equations and inequalities to define the character’s shapes, and then translates those same ideas into Godot’s shader language (GDSL).

From there, everything comes together as a fully procedural version of Gastly, built from math and Cartesian coordinates, with animation based on time.

It’s not really meant to be dropped into a game, it’s more of a learning example that shows how shapes and functions translate into real-time rendering
Fabrizio will be sharing more videos like this, covering shaders, tools, tips, and technical concepts. If you’d like to follow along, you can subscribe to the channel.

We’ll also be giving away a copy of The Godot Shaders Bible Collector’s Edition once the channel reaches 1K subscribers

Some of these techniques may look familiar. Many of the ideas behind this Gastly are the same ones explored in The Godot Shaders Bible.

This book is designed for anyone interested in learning more about shaders, whether you’re just starting out or already have some experience and want to explore further in Godot.
