Paolo Gambardella shares a few words about his new book and the motivation behind writing it
Have you met Paolo Gambardella? He’s a teacher, communicator, and consultant for game companies, using
LinkedIn and his
personal blog to share insights about game design. Now, Paolo is taking the next step in his journey — writing a book with Jettelly.
“A book is another level — it’s the next step I’m taking to deepen my understanding of how game design truly works,” Paolo says.
Paolo’s upcoming book will be shaped by his daily work as a consultant. Documenting what he learns isn’t just for readers — it’s also a way for him to sharpen his own craft. As a professional game designer, Paolo understands that the job isn’t only about making great experiences for players; it’s about adding value to the business that funds the project. He’s worked closely with business and marketing teams, navigated high-stakes deadlines, and seen how the “winner-takes-all” nature of the games market can challenge even the most passionate creators.
“The inner child who likely led you to pursue this dream can eventually fade,” he explains. “That’s why I want to write this book — to keep my motivation alive.”
Over the years, strangers have approached Paolo at conferences to share how his posts inspired them or even helped solve a problem. For him, that connection is one of the most rewarding parts of his career.
This upcoming book will be practical, with zero fluff — an actionable framework for adding value to a business as a game designer, standing out for your craft, and being effective in your role. It won’t be a theoretical dive into player motivations or game mechanics; instead, it will focus on creative direction for those already working in the video game industry.
We’re excited to welcome Paolo to the Jettelly family and can’t wait to bring you his fresh, business-savvy perspective on game design.
