BONETOX didn't always move this fast. KLD One shares how its combat changed on the way to Steam Early Access.
After nearly two years of solo development in their spare time,
KLD One has released
BONETOX in Steam Early Access. The arena shooter was much slower in its first version.
Back then, sprinting was separate from normal movement, and you couldn't shoot while doing it. KLD One made fast movement the default instead. The sprint button became a dash that can get you out of danger or hurt an enemy.
Aiming down sights didn't fit the pace of a small arena either. KLD One removed it from every weapon except the sniper rifle and reworked recoil so players can shoot accurately from the hip while moving.
Getting close to enemies can help you survive. Chainsaw kills drop health, and sledgehammer kills drop armor. The hammer used to take up its own weapon slot; now it's a quick secondary attack you can use at any time.
Reloading carries a cost too: you lose any rounds left in the magazine. To get more ammo, you have to kill martyrs, non-aggressive characters that drop ammo for your current weapon and health.
KLD One kept this rule because it makes each reload matter and gives players another reason to stay on the attack.
Right now KLD One is looking for feedback as
BONETOX develops in
Early Access. You can find the game on
Steam.
